PSV has an exciting employment opportunity for an experienced
Pediatric Hematology Nurse Coordinator to join their dedicated team
of healthcare professionals! This specific role will be supporting
PSV's Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic in our Fairfax,
VA location. This position is working full-time Monday - Friday.
Clinical hours range between 8:00am - 5:00pm.

The hematologists and oncologists of Pediatric Specialists of
Virginia's (PSV) Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders care for
children and their families across the full lifespan of treating
these disorders, from initial diagnosis to comprehensive treatments
and recovery.
There are only a few pediatric cancer and blood disorder programs
in the country that offer specialized expertise in the childhood
forms of these diseases that PSV does. Our team of specialists
develop an integrated care plan for each family that allows them to
visit one location and access all the services they need. This
makes us a true medical home for children undergoing treatment for
cancer and blood disorders in Northern Virginia.
Overview
The Hematology Nurse Coordinator will work in the Pediatric
Specialists of Virginia, Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at
the Schar Cancer Institute in Fairfax, Virginia. The Pediatric
Hematology-Oncology clinic is composed of different teams, which
are leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumor, brain tumor, long-term
follow-up, and hematology teams, each with a nurse coordinator. The
Hematology Nurse Coordinator organizes and coordinates clinical
care for hematology patients with sickle cell and
hemoglobinopathies, red cell disorders, bone marrow failure
syndromes, platelet and white cell disorders, and thrombosis. The
Hematology Nurse Coordinator also functions as a patient educator.
The position fulfills an important role on the Hematology Team,
functioning with independence and leadership.
Job Description
Coordinator for general benign hematology, working closely with the
Director of Hematology
Coordinate the Pediatric Sickle Cell and Hemoglobinopathy Program
for Northern Virginia. This is a highly successful program with
high hydroxyurea utilization and low hospitalization rates.
Coordinating this program is a rewarding experience.
Responsibilities include coordinating outpatient clinical care,
interacting with physicians, NP/Pas, nurses, social workers,
psychologists, coordinating referrals and consultations with other
specialists, assisting in the implementation of treatment plans and
health maintenance, and following up with patients/families.
Working with VDH (Virginia Department of Health) newborn screening
follow-up program to ensure new babies get into subspecialty
care.
Provide patient education
Support transition of young adult patients to adult hematology
care
Maintain patient databases and report data to VDH
Assist with clinical research if desired.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Graduated from an approved school of nursing
Registered Nurse currently licensed in Virginia or ability to
obtain license in Virginia
All employees must pass an employment TB test, drug screen, and
physical exam
